Sarah specialises in massage for pre and post dance performances, dancing injuries and also theatre performers. Sarah works closely with runners and cyclists and will often be seen working closely with our podiatrists Jonathan Stanley and our Chiropractors and Physiotherapists. Sports massage can help with intense training and injury prevention.
Sports massage can help with soft tissue injuries such as leg sprains and strains. The growth and repair of tissues are accelerated by sufficient circulation in the area of injury due to massage. Damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury can all be removed by deep tissue massage.

A sports massage is beneficial both pre-event and post-event. It is especially beneficial for body builders in Leeds. We have special benefits for amateur football clubs in Leeds.
A sports massage is effective for relieving muscle tension rebalancing the musculo-skeletal system. A constant build up of tension can lead to stresses on muscles and joints and their connective tissues. Massage will also help release the tension from the pain in your neck, your aching shoulders or your back, help you relax, unwind and recharge your batteries.
A remedial or sports massage can help alleviate and prevent problems in the following areas:
- Muscle Strains and Spasms
- Tense Shoulders
- Stiff Joints
- Aching Joints
- Sore Legs
- Neck and Shoulder Pains
- Stress Pain and Aches.
Did you know Massage can help Headaches ?
Massage can be an effective treatment for headaches and migraine. It can reduce the frequency and severity of attacks. Migraines are a complex condition and there are not always clear triggers but some include tiredness, dehydration, poor posture, neck, shoulder tension, poor sleep quality, low blood sugar level, stress and hormonal changes.
Massage promotes circulation and blood flow, decreases pain from trigger points, relieves muscle tension which helps muscle balance and neck alignment. Massage will relax the muscles that attach to the base of the scull, this can help tension headaches that travel up the back of the head into the eye.
A lot of people don’t know what causes their headaches and don’t think of massage for help.
The suboccipital muscles are a common cause for headaches. These are based at the back of your skull and work in balance with your jaw. They help to keep your head balanced on top of your spine.
Trigger points in the suboccipital muscles can cause tension, migraine and cluster headaches.
Massage will also help to regulate certain hormones and reduce cortisol. Increase endorphin release promoting relaxation and improved sleep quality.
My treatment consists mainly of massage to the thoracic back, shoulders, upper pectoral muscle, sub occipital muscles, neck, head and face.
I have had a lot of success in treating headaches especially when related to tension, stress, poor posture, tight muscles in the thoracic back, neck and jaw.
“I was suffering from really bad headaches nearly every day ! I booked in with Sarah Spearing to see if she could help.
She said i was holding a lot of tension in certain muscles and my neck causing me to have headaches.
After my first session i could feel a big difference, so i had some regular treatment with Sarah and the frequency of headaches reduced significantly.
I now see Sarah about once a month and i no longer get any Headaches!
I would highly recommend Sarah if you are suffering from headaches or neck pain”
Does Sports Massage Hurt?
Muscles are designed to move, to be in constant motion, stretched and contracted, Most people spend their time constantly contracting them at the gym so they become shortened or spend time sat in the same position all day, which over time this shortening of the muscles makes them become tight, reducing the blood flow causing more tightness.
When you get treatment for your muscles, the ones that are short and tight will not move under your therapists touch, which then can cause you pain. If your muscles are relaxed and supple then a sports massage will not be painful.
Everyone is different, pressure that is comfortable for one person can cause pain to someone else, Your in charge of how much pressure is applied to your muscles, I constantly ask clients for feedback and am respectful and attentive to how much pressure can be tolerated.
Sports massage is not just about getting deep into muscle and tissue but sometimes to bring about the desired effect, healing and recuperation, skillful pressure is applied to bring about this change.
Getting Back into Shape
I’ve been going to Sarah for the best part of a year now and she has helped me to be able to move more freely again. Sarah gets into tight muscles brilliantly and I always leave in much better shape. I highly recommend!
